Shrader Engineering is working closely with the Harris County Information Technology Center (HCITC) to develop technical specifications for the implementation of the second phase of the Broadband Interoperability Gateway Network (BIG-NET) to provide public safety broadband services for various public safety agencies. The resulting system will allow public safety agencies to leverage 4G LTE technology for faster and more robust data and voice communications options. The resulting system will work seamlessly with existing push-to-talk land mobile radio technologies and provide a layer of priority management to ensure that critical communications has priority over non-critical communications. While the current implementation is only county-wide, it has national security implications in that counties may be linked together in the future to create a state-wide network, and states may be linked together to create a national public safety network.
