Chloramine Conversion for Regional Water Plants January 5, 2009 In an effort to comply with the TCEQ subsidence requirements, ground water pumping plants used by most of the regional MUD Districts are being required to reduce their usage of ground water by 2010. In order to reduce their usage, Districts are now actively converting their plants to receive surface water from various regional Water Authorities. Shrader Engineering is proud to have played a critical role in developing robust instrumentation and control schemes to support this conversion. Regional Water Authorities providing surface water are now using Chloramine as a disinfectant for drinking water; Chloramine has been proven to be more stable than Chlorine and lasts longer in the distribution system. Most of the regional MUD District ground water plants are still using traditional Chlorine treatment methods. Because Chlorine used in the water treatment process can combine with natural organic matter in water to form compounds known as disinfection byproducts (DBP Midlothian High Service Pump Station and Clearwell January 1, 2009 The City of Midlothian, Texas is located 25 miles southwest of Dallas and 25 miles southeast of Ft. Worth with an estimated population of 13,200. In an effort to solve current pressure and product deficiencies, the City is financing improvements to its existing water system. The City is constructing an 8.0 million gallon per day (MGD) water treatment plant expansion, a raw water pump station, a raw water pipeline, and treatment water transmission pipelines. Shrader Engineering is providing electrical engineering services for the High Service Pump Station and Clearwell as part of the Schrickel, Rollins & Associates (SRA) team. Our services include the electrical design of electrical service entrance and switchgear, motor control centers (MCC), power distribution system, instrumentation and controls, supervisory control and data acquisition system (SCADA), video surveillance and access control system, and MEP for facility buildings. The firm is proud of its continued relationship with SRA and the City of Midlothian, and the continued expansion of the City Port of Houston Authority Bayport Gate Expansion, Stage 3 Master Plan June 17, 2008 Shrader Engineering Company is slated to begin preliminary work on the Master Planning Phase for the Port of Houston Authority Bayport Gate Expansion Stage 3 project. Preliminary objectives include a Master Plan to be developed for staged Entry Precheck / Entry Inspection and staged Exit Precheck / Exit Inspection areas at the Bayport Container Terminal Complex. The Master Planning Team will develop an optimized Marine Terminal Gate Configuration; and will evaluate and consider innovative technologies in conjunction with Port of Houston Authority practices. After receiving approval for the Master Plan, the Design Team will move into the initial phase of design. Shrader Engineering will work closely with Klotz Associates, Inc. and other members of the Design Team to support development of key elements of the Master Plan. SEC H.C.P.I.D. Planning and Operations Division -- Houston Ship Channel Surveillance System May 15, 2008 Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) contracted with Shrader Engineering Company (SEC) to provide engineering services to the Harris County Public Infrastructure Department Planning and Operations Division for the installation of a sophisticated surveillance system for the Houston Ship Channel. The first phase required preparation of a Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and Preliminary Engineering Report (PER) covering recommendations and construction, maintenance and operational cost assessments as well as completion of NEPA compliance responses about the project. SEC assisted the SAIC Team in preparing cost estimates of proposed system with preliminary design concepts, Bill of Material (BOM) and supporting infrastructure, schedule estimates to construct and install the system, and estimating operational and maintenance costs for a 10-year life cycle.
